RD8200When precision and accuracy matter mostLocate in congested areas and in the presence of strong interfering signals Locating and tracing a specific utility in congested areas can be challenging. The RD8200 enables the field technician to confirm they are following the correct line, check for interference and avoid false positives, giving them confidence in the quality of their work. Produce cm-accurate utility maps The demand for accurate utility maps is growing rapidly. The RD8200 precision locator can be connected with external GNSS systems, such as the Trimble Catalyst, and RD MAP+ to deliver cm-accurate maps. A congested area is a site with multiple cables and pipes buried closely together and often crossing each other, such as industrial or urban environments. Interference is an electrical disturbance that can affect the accuracy of the locator, typically caused by substations and buried or overhead high voltage cables. |

Applications of RD Series Locators
The Radiodetection RD Series, including the RD7200, RD8200, RD8200G and RD8200SG, is designed for accurate cable, pipe and utility locating across construction, power, water, pipeline and telecommunications applications. With rugged IP65-rated construction, high-contrast displays, TruDepth™, Compass guidance, broad frequency support and model-dependent GNSS, logging and mapping capabilities, the RD Series provides reliable performance for everyday locating through to advanced survey-grade workflows.
Construction and Site Locating
RD Series locators are suited to general construction, civil works and excavation projects where buried services need to be located quickly and accurately. Active and passive locating modes help technicians identify common buried utilities across a wide range of site conditions, while the rugged casing and outdoor-readable display support use in challenging weather and field environments.
Power Cable Location
For complex power environments, RD Series locators help technicians work around interference from substations, overhead lines, high-voltage cables and congested utility corridors. Features such as Dynamic Overload Protection, Power Filters™ and Current Direction on compatible models help separate overlapping signals and confirm the correct target line is being traced.
Water, Pipeline and Drainage Applications
The RD Series supports long-distance tracing of conductive pipes using a wide choice of active frequencies. Where sondes or inspection cameras are used, sonde locating modes help trace pipes, ducts and drains made from materials such as cast iron, clay, fibre, concrete and brick. Pipelines with cathodic protection systems can also be followed using CPS passive mode, with compass guidance helping maintain alignment with the target pipeline.
Telecommunications and High-Impedance Lines
For telecommunications work, RD Series locators offer higher-frequency options for locating high-impedance lines, sheathed cables, ducts and conduits. Compatible models can also be customised with additional frequencies to match signals commonly used across specific utility networks. Cable sheath faults can be located using Fault Find mode with a compatible Radiodetection A-Frame.
Mapping, Logging and Survey Workflows
Higher-spec RD Series models support workflows that go beyond basic locating, including usage logging, GNSS positional data and survey measurement capture. These capabilities help improve traceability, support field reporting and provide useful information about how, when and where locating equipment was used.
